Poshmark: A Family Affair

Please note, all opinions expressed are solely my own. I have no insider knowledge nor claim to…

I am just a seller on Poshmark.

If you watch any large online company you will see it dramatically change as it evolves with its users, whether it is a marketplace or social media. Take Facebook or even eBay… if you were there in the beginning you will recall the huge changes and developments over the years.

Of course our beloved selling platform POSHMARK will evolve and change.

But why does this bother us?

Is there a just cause for concern?

Or are we afraid of competition or having to adjust our carefully plotted strategies?

If you have been offline or on vacation the past week you may have missed the slow trickle of information leaked out from PMHQ. Almost two weeks ago they sent an announcement to Suggested Users that Poshmark will now be allowing men’s and children’s clothing at some point this summer.

Honestly, this is old news…

Remember we discussed this here?

Also, as several poshers have informed me, this was announced to be in the works way back at PoshFest 2015.

Now you can read the terms and conditions inside your app and see it plain as day. It’s coming…

Let’s be Honest…

Let’s be honest.

How many of you have had a slow month selling?

I am not afraid to say it…

I haven’t had a sale in over a week.

Before you roll your eyes, NO, this isn’t the first time I have had a lull in sales.

You can have the cutest listings, with the most popular name brands, mark it all down to $5.00 and STILL not have a sales… it happens.

But this month of June has been pretty tough… I am not the only one who has been experiencing this based on how many comments, DMs, and texts I have received asking for advice!

However, I do need to go ahead and admit that Poshing has not been my #1 priority. It can’t always be… right?

Re-List, Rinse, and Repeat

Disclaimer: When writing this post, I had to consult the internet on whether the correct word was “relist” or “re-list” but could not find a conclusive answer. I even consulted 2 teacher friends and my mother (who is a badge carrying member of the grammar police) and received three different opinions. SO, for the sake of the word not looking like realist or relish, I have decided to include the hyphen.

Let’s carry on…

The word RE-LIST can spark anger and disappointment.

As in: “UGH, I am going to have to re-list this item!”

Re-listing on Poshmark means that you have to delete your original listing that has so many LIKES and start the process all over by listing it again This can be even more painful and gut wrenching if it was a former HOST PICK.

You would NEVER want delete this item just to list it again, right?… but sometimes you feel that it is necessary if the listing somehow has been compromised.

Examples of ways a listing can potentially become “compromised”:

Offers: Don’t Take it Personal

I had a truly eye-opening conversation concerning Offers.

But let me start at the beginning…

My best friend is obsessed with shoes. She does not just claim to love shoes, it is a lifestyle for her.

She has a room in her home dedicated to her shoes. She has hundreds of pairs.

My best friend is also on Poshmark. She doesn’t sell, she has yet to purchase, but she does browse.

She browses the shoes, of course.

Occasionally she will ask my opinion on a pair she finds. I insist that she let’s me check out the listing to determine if it looks like a reputable seller and closet.

A week or so ago, we were sitting at Starbucks enjoying our grande flat white lattes when she showed me a pair of shoes she liked. They were really nice Vera Wang flats, not my style, but TOTALLY her.

This is how our conversation went…

How to be a SUCCESS on Poshmark

Success on Poshmark

Everyone wants to know how to be a SUCCESS on Poshmark.

You may have read articles about Poshmark sellers achieving success by making five… six… SEVEN FIGURES (!!!) from their closets. Some will read these news articles and take it as motivation and some will immediately assume personal defeat.

After hearing about these “super closets”, have you found yourself thinking about the pair of knee socks you just sold (and the $2.05 profit…) then calculated exactly how many pairs you will have to sell to make six figures?

What am I doing wrong???

Nothing.

Success on Poshmark doesn’t always mean that you are beating everyone else at the game. You have to define what “being successful” means to you, how you are going to measure your personal success, and FIRST figuring out what the hell are you even trying to achieve.

Every Poshmark Closet is NOT the same… quite honestly, you really can’t compare most of them. They are each individual businesses with their own unique niche.

Let me explain it this way…

Think Like a Store Owner

This post is to discuss how to think like a Store Owner in regards to customer service. If you sell on Poshmark, you are a Store Owner! You are responsible for your inventory, presentation, as well as customer service. Not only that, you are also the head of operations and accounting. I would say that most people take their closet/store very seriously. With that said, it’s all too easy to take things personally as well!

There are a variety of reasons that bring users to Poshmark and why it’s so personal to us. Some have dreams of running their own boutique one day while some simply started to clean out their real closet. The addiction can be gradual, those who were just cleaning up have found themselves keeping their Poshmark Closet full of their shopping treasures. There are Poshers who have made a business out of their closets and have quit their full-time jobs to run their online store. Whatever the reason, something draws us in to the virtual world of Poshmark.

Here is a little background about me… the Gray Asparagus.

New Shipping Rates on Poshmark

UPDATE:

As of 2/8/2017, Shipping rates on Poshmark have increased to $6.49 for Priority Service. Although this blog post post is about the rate change from the same month in 2016… my opinions remain the same.

Well, my friends… I expect today to be a slow day.

New Shipping Rates on Poshmark are now in effect!

Overnight it was announced that standard Priority Shipping on purchases weighing up to 5 lbs will now be $5.95 $6.49 (updated 2/8/2017)

Only a few short years ago, the rate was $6.99 so it could be worse… right???

I have already stated my case in the post Are You Talking Ship? so I will not regurgitate my stand.

Take note of Posher comments in the post- very good examples are listed.

Poshmark Retail and the Boutique Feature

My Thoughts on NWT, NWT Retail, and the Boutique feature

…on Poshmark

(If you do not have Boutique feature yet, update your app. The Android update will come in the next few weeks. If you still cannot view the feature- you can read about it on the Poshmark Blog HERE.)

Disclaimer: I have been trying to write a post about “Retail” for some time now…

The only way for me to get my thoughts out is to just throw them out there.

So here you go:

I generally do not shop Poshmark “NWT Retail.”

Hi, I’m @GrayAsparagus

Like many of you, when I first downloaded the Poshmark App, I had NO CLUE what was about to happen.
I didn’t know that almost 2 years later I would still be buying, selling, and now blogging about it!
When I signed up and had to quickly choose a closet name, I didn’t think much of it… I didn’t think ahead to having a little store, making friends, networking on social media…

To be honest, some of us ended up with really odd names. With that said…

My Poshmark Closet name has changed!

@vance289 is now…

@GrayAsparagus

Have you been considering a closet name change?

There are a few things we should talk about…

Your First Week on Poshmark

Your first week on Poshmark

So you have downloaded the Poshmark App … now what?

This is a question that seasoned Poshmark users get asked daily… with good reason! It can be overwhelming and downright confusing! I had a friend who introduced me to Poshmark and the basics on how it works… I think I stared at the app for a week before listing something. After reading everything I could about it and all the fine print, I gave it a shot.

Then, eventually,  I had a couple of super friendly users take me under their wing and answer questions along the way.

The rest was trial and error. As you read my blog posts you will find they are mostly tales of mistakes I have made and lessons I have learned.

Here is a quick and simple 5 step guide for your first 7 days…

I hope you read the guidelines in the menu portion of the app. I know, the fine print isn’t the most fun to read, but DO IT. You need to know the rules, trust me.

Let’s get to it:
