If you have read any of my blog posts you might notice that I am constantly testing out different strategies. I like to hear opinions and try them so I can share my results with the
hundreds seven people who read my blog. My opinion can sometimes evolve or change.
For every strategy that a Posher swears by, you will find another who believes the exact opposite. I have posted on the subject of Sharing and how important it is… but even I go back and forth on what strategy leads to the most sales.
Once again I tried an experiment. Shocking, I know! I won’t be redundant and discuss styles and strategy. I only wanted to form a firm opinion on the topic of whether or not it’s better to share your own closet or share other closets. I am not presenting you with cold hard facts because there are so many different factors that go into this. Factors such as: what time of day you share, how many followers you have, brands of items in your closet, and so on. Your personal results may be different.
Here is my opinion…
Did you know that there is a secret society meeting going on right now within Poshmark???
There really are not-so-secret groups meeting up on Poshmark. Some are exclusive and some have open membership. These gathering of Poshers are called SHARE GROUPS. You probably have come across a Share Group listing in your feed or maybe while browsing a closet. Being a member and participating in a share group can be advantageous as highly effective way to spend your time sharing.
But what IS a “share group” you ask?
This was originally published on August 7, 2015… Recently it seems to be a huge topic on Poshmark. I feel like there have been no major changes in the way share have been displayed… what do YOU think?
We all want to be noticed.
All of us, from time to time, have that one listing that we REALLY want people to see. Sometimes it’s that hot new dress, a Party Co-Hosting Alert, or a Major Sale Announcement. For me, I get really excited when I post a new blog entry and want to share it with everyone.
For a long time now, it has been widely believed that if you share the same listing over and over, you will “flood” your followers news feed and they will have to take notice. It shouldn’t annoy anyone because most Poshers follow thousands of people and may only see your ten rapid fire shares once or twice. Have you heard of this theory?
I was able to test this the other morning…
When scrolling through social media sites it’s hard to not become envious of others.
The snapshots on Instagram of the perfect sunset or coffee by the river evokes jealousy of strangers. Then there are our friends on Facebook whose posts are about perfect, loving boyfriends or their amazing weekend road trip…
If you actually were a fly on the wall- you most likely would find that things aren’t as perfect as they post.
The same can be said for Poshmark.
Let me explain.
As I have confessed before… early on I suffered from closet envy. I thought- if I had 100k+ followers I would be selling tons… or If I had the time to take better photos than I would get that many likes! I bet if I hosted a party then my closet would sell out!!!
I recently conducted an experiment.
Well, honestly, I accidentally conducted an experiment.
You are sitting at your computer and your finger is tired of clicking the mouse to share listings. So, you switch to your iPad or phone. Click, share. Click, share.
Now you absent-mindedly check your Instagram to see if you have any likes… Now back to Poshmark.
Click, share. Click, share.
Must get on track… click, share.
Oh, a notification! A share back!
You keep sharing. It’s almost like being at a slot machine… the next share might be the one! The JACKPOT! A Posher might see this listing and HAVE to bundle!
Click, share. Click, share.
Wait, where did that hour go?
Please Note: The following is my opinion. I am just telling ya like I would tell a friend over coffee. Please see Poshmark blog link listed or email Poshmark Support with any questions regarding specific rules and regulations and how they apply to you.
If Poshmark had a #trending section… “Follow Posh Rules” would be trending day after day, hour after hour.
What is the big deal?
Let’s talk about. The what and why of it all. Read more
SHARING is quite possibly one of the most controversial topics amongst the Poshmark Community. I previously explained in my “Sharing is Caring” Post (found Here) the basics of sharing and how it benefits your closet and others. Today I will go more in depth with sharing styles and give my thoughts on those closets that seemingly don’t share.
I don’t think there is a “correct” number of shares that you should have under your belt. Some ladies simply do not have the time that some do. There are closets that serve as a Poshers full-time job. There are closets that belong to those who work long shifts at their regular job, and they struggle to even drop their sales off at the post office during business hours. So many factors in life effect our time that we have to dedicate to Poshmark- I can only imagine the juggling some Poshers do to balance work, family, kids, dating, preparing meals, taking care of loved ones, etc. and still have time to share! We all have our unique situation. We have all picked up our own sharing technique based on what works for us.
Let me recap a few styles that I have done/do/observed: Read more
Although you will hear and read this over and over.
Is sharing really important? Where do my shares go? Why do I want to promote someone else’s closet when I have my own stuff to sell???
I know it seems like you are passing out someones virtual “business card” by hitting that share button… but here is what really happens:
When you hit “share” on your own listing or another Posher’s listing you are making it appear in the “feed” of your followers. It doesn’t mean that all your followers will see it, they have to be scrolling their feed to see it (much like a twitter or instagram feed- you miss a lot of what is posted). This is why you want your listing shared as often as possible.
So why share another closet? Two main reasons: friendship and sharing back. Read more
I can’t begin to imagine what a Poshing “newbie” thinks the first time they see the acronym “PFF” on this site where you sell clothes…
All I have to say is… if you don’t know what a PFF is, then you are in desperate need of a PFF!
A PFF by definition is a Posh Friend Forever. Before you panic and think “Between work, my family, my pottery class, my annoying REAL best friend… How am I going to have MORE FFs???”… calm down.
In reality, a PFF is a term of endearment and says- “Hey girl, you are cool, I like your closet, I’m gonna share the crap out of it when I have time, and let’s form an alliance.”
Why do these friendships matter, you ask? I mean, you have sold on eBay for years and never met a soul.
That’s one of my FAVORITE things about Poshmark… you can talk to other sellers… actually talk to your customers… and affect your success by the amount of work your put in.
This is something I learned early on… the benefit these friendships can bring and how much fun they can be!
